What STAMICO does
STAMICO sits on both sides of the sector: partner to private miners and operator in its own right. It also holds the drilling and laboratory capacity the state uses to test ground before licensing.
What we track
Whether state stakes translate into disclosed dividends, and whether STAMICO's dual role as investor and adviser to the licensing authority creates conflicts that are managed transparently.
Why it matters regionally
STAMICO is the most developed state mining vehicle in East Africa, holding equity in gold, nickel and coal projects and running its own service arms. Uganda and Kenya are both drafting versions of the same idea, so STAMICO's record is the closest thing the region has to evidence about whether state participation raises revenue or simply adds a layer.
Community and accountability record
As a shareholder in projects that generate local grievances, STAMICO sits on both sides of disputes over land, compensation and artisanal access. Its published accounts and board disclosures are the only route into how those conflicts are handled, and they arrive late.
